Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has revealed that she lost ₦5 million after placing a bet on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, saying the experience has convinced her never to gamble again.
Etiko made the disclosure in a post shared on her Instagram page on Monday, shortly after Spain defeated Argentina to lift the World Cup trophy.
Reflecting on the outcome, she wrote: “First time betting and I lost .
“Will never try it again.
“My 5M gone .
“In fact am done watching football.
“Anxiety almost killed me.”
The actress, however, did not disclose the exact bet she placed or explain how she lost the money.
Earlier during the World Cup final, Etiko had made her support for Argentina clear through a series of posts on her Instagram Story.
She wrote: “Argentina all the way. Who can’t wait?”
As the match progressed, her optimism gave way to frustration as Argentina struggled to break down Spain.
She posted: “This ball tough o.
“Argentina is pissing me off.”
Despite Argentina’s difficulties, Etiko praised goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for keeping his side in the contest.
She wrote: “The goal keeper is the savior oo.”
Spain eventually defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the second period of extra time to hand Spain their second World Cup title, 16 years after lifting their first in South Africa in 2010.
