Prominent political strategist Baba Yusuf has raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, warning that bandits could soon infiltrate the Senate and House of Representatives.
Speaking on Arise News on Saturday, April 18, 2026, Yusuf said citizens in banditry-affected areas now pay taxes to the criminals and seek them out for mediation and protection instead of relying on the government.
He noted that bandits are expanding their operations into new states like Niger and Kwara while intensifying attacks in Benue and Plateau.
Yusuf criticized the government’s approach, saying terrorists now openly taunt the state, kill soldiers, wear military uniforms, and participate in peace talks without consequences.
“Very soon bandits will be in the Senate and the House of Reps, because Nigerians are paying them tax in the north. People are beginning to have confidence in them,” he warned.
Yusuf described the situation as an existential threat that requires urgent and sincere action beyond political rhetoric.
