First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Wednesday received the Lagos State APC consensus governorship candidate, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the State House, Abuja.
The visit followed the endorsement of Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu and the unanimous decision of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) to adopt him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Members of the GAC formally presented Hamzat to the First Lady, seeking her blessings and support for the consensus arrangement.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu commended Lagos State for its political maturity, describing the peaceful emergence of a consensus candidate as a reflection of the state’s advanced democratic culture.
She noted that the smooth process demonstrates that politics in Lagos has moved beyond bitterness and rancour, adding that power ultimately belongs to God, who gives it to whom He pleases.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu briefed the First Lady that all 25 members of the GAC unanimously endorsed Hamzat after wide consultations with critical stakeholders across the state.
He sought the First Lady’s counsel and prayers for the success of the arrangement and the overall progress of Lagos State.
GAC leader, Chief Tajudeen Olusi, explained that the visit was necessary to recognise the important role of women in governance and nation-building.
Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, also praised Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her immense contributions to national development and the welfare of Nigerian women.
The meeting is seen as a strategic move to solidify support for Hamzat’s candidacy within the Tinubu political family ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Lagos.
