Rivers United climbed back to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a 1-0 win over Plateau United, while Ikorodu City strengthened their continental ambitions with a commanding win against Kano Pillars.

Matchday 34 delivered major twists across the table, intensifying both the title race and the fight for survival as the season heads towards a tense finish.

Wisdom Samuel struck as early as the 11th minute to hand Rivers United a narrow win and move the Port Harcourt side onto 58 points at the top.

Closest challengers Rangers International kept the pressure on despite being held to a goalless draw by Niger Tornadoes in Minna. The result leaves Rangers two points off the summit.

Ikorodu City delivered one of the performances of the weekend with a 3-0 triumph at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Joseph Arumala opened the scoring in the 28th minute with his 12th goal of the season.

Tosin Oyedokun doubled the lead in the 70th minute before Abayomi Ayodeji sealed the win late on. The Lagos side now sit third on 55 points as they chase a first continental ticket in only their second season.

The relegation battle produced drama elsewhere. Shooting Stars were held 0-0 by Kwara United, a result that lifted the Ilorin side to 16th and out of the drop zone ahead of their stadium return.

Defending champions Remo Stars suffered a damaging 2-1 defeat to Barau FC in Kano. Haruna Hadi put Remo ahead in the 63rd minute, but Joseph Atule equalised seven minutes later before Joseph Kemin completed the comeback in the 83rd minute. The loss leaves Remo Stars down in 19th place.

Enyimba eased their worries with a convincing 3-0 win over Katsina United in Aba. Stanley Dimgba opened the scoring, Chidera Michael added a second soon after, and Wonah Williams wrapped up the result in the 79th minute. The nine-time champions climb to 12th on 43 points.

Wikki Tourists secured the only away win of the round, beating Bayelsa United 1-0 in Yenagoa through Imamu Bala’s 67th-minute strike.

Bottom-placed Kun Khalifat kept their survival hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over Nigerian National League Wolves. Mmesoma Nnorom scored early before Uchechukwu Onuoha added a late brace. Despite the win, they remain last on 39 points.

Just above them, Remo Stars, Wikki Tourists, Bayelsa United and Kwara United are locked on 40 points, underlining the fierce scrap to avoid the drop with four teams set for relegation.

Matchday 34 ends later today, April 13, as El-Kanemi Warriors host Nasarawa United in Maiduguri.
