Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a manhunt for a driver and two vigilante members linked to the fatal shooting of an artist, Mene Ogidi, 28, in Effurun, Delta state.

Blueprint reports that a police team responding to distress call over a pistol and ammunition found in a parcel after taking the suspect, Ogidi, into custody rather than follow standard operational procedures, the team lead, simply identified as  ASP Nuhu shot and killed him.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, while

parading the suspects before journalists, Sunday, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, said the suspects were at large and  tactical teams have been deployed to track them down.

DCP Placid said the police officers involved in the incident  have also been handed over for prosecution following the conclusion of internal investigations.

“Internal disciplinary procedures have been concluded against all officers found culpable. The Force wishes to state clearly and without ambiguity that all

indicted officers have been recommended for dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

“The Police Service Commission (PSC) has reviewed and ratified this recommendation. Their dismissal is therefore confirmed and takes immediate effect.

“The case file has also been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution, with the police pledging full cooperation to ensure justice is served,” he further stated.

Speaking further he assured the public and the family of the deceased that justice would be pursued without compromise, stating: “NPF reassures Nigerians, particularly the family the deceased that justice will be served in this matter.

“The Force does not shield officers who violate the law. No rank, no position, and no circumstance will be permitted to place any officer above accountability.

“This case is being handled with the full weight of transparency and institutional integrity. The NPF is aware that the eyes of Nigerians and the international community are on this matter, and we are resolved that our actions will reflect the highest standards of justice, accountability, and respect for human rights.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and assure

them that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on all those found

culpable.”
