The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration is expanding infrastructure across Abuja satellite towns to curb rural-urban migration and decentralise development.
Wike said this during the inspection of ongoing construction of 13-kilometre Gomani to Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, on Thursday.
The minister, who expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, said that the 13-kilometre road, when completed, would link rural communities with major roads to the city centre.
He said that the FCT Administration was strictly following a presidential directive to ensure development was not limited to the city centre.
“One of the directives of President Bola Tinubu is that we should not concentrate development only in the cities. We must open up all the satellite towns to discourage rural-urban migration,” he said.
Speaking on the strategic progression of the road corridor, the minister said that A2 (Abuja to Lokoja Expressway) to Pai had been completed and inaugurated in 2025 to celebrate Tinubu’s second year in office.
He added that Painto Gomani was currently ongoing, while Gomani to Yangoji was almost completed.
He expressed optimism that Gomani to Yangoji would be completed and inaugurated in June to celebrate Tinubu’s third year in office.
He commended the contractor, Zeberced, for the technical precision and adherence to the project timeline.
“I commend the contractor for not only providing quality jobs, but also keeping to the timeline and currently installing streetlight pillars,” he said.
Wike expressed confidence that the rapid transformation of the satellite towns would be a point of pride for the presidency.
“I believe that when Mr President comes here, it will be a thing of joy for him to see that development is passing through all the satellite towns, affirming his administration’s commitment to balanced regional growth.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
