Gombe gov wins APC senatorial ticket

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Gombe State Primary Election Committee, Labiru Musa, has officially declared Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmed, and Jerry Damara as winners of the party’s 2026 senatorial primary elections in Gombe State.

Speaking during a press briefing held at the Press Centre in Gombe on Tuesday, Musa said the direct primary elections conducted across the state on Monday were peaceful, orderly, and transparent.

According to him, the exercise complied fully with the directives of the National Working Committee of the APC and allowed grassroots party members to participate directly in the process.

“Operational transparency was strictly secured through a rigorous, standardised layout,” Musa said.

He added that the committee enforced a mandatory accreditation process beginning from 8:00 am at ward levels across the state.

“Voting eligibility was strictly tied to the mandatory presentation of a valid APC membership card, successfully eliminating external infiltration and protecting the sanctity of the ballot,” he stated.

Announcing the results, Musa said Yahaya emerged as the APC candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District after polling 131,009 affirmation votes.

For Gombe Central Senatorial District, he declared Mohammed Ahmed (retd.) winner with 89,415 valid votes, while Jerry Joseph Damara secured the Gombe South Senatorial ticket with 56,687 votes.

Musa explained that the declarations were made at the various zonal collation centres immediately after the completion of collation in line with party guidelines and electoral regulations.

“Having satisfied all necessary requirements and scored the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective districts, these winners were rightfully declared on the field immediately after collation,” he said.

“The committee fully stands by these decentralised field declarations, which confirm them as the official flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress for the upcoming elections,” he added.

The committee chairman also commended Yahaya, the APC leadership in the state, security agencies, and journalists for what he described as a “transparent, highly credible and world-class democratic exercise.”
