‘He died childless after 10 years of marriage” – Family of slain Oyo teacher mourns

The family of Michael Oyedokun, the Oyo State teacher abducted and later killed by terrorists, has expressed deep sorrow over his death, revealing that he died without a child after more than 10 years of marriage.

Oyedokun was among teachers kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Schools Attacked in Oyo Community

The attack reportedly happened during a raid on Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, where armed men abducted several teachers.

Other affected schools included Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso.

The attacks also claimed the life of an assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist.

Following the incident, the Oyo State Government ordered the closure of schools in the affected areas while security agencies intensified rescue operations.

A disturbing video later surfaced online showing the late teacher tied up and speaking under duress before he was killed, sparking outrage and fear across the state.

Family Describes Him as Calm and Dedicated

Speaking on behalf of the family during a visit, Ebeni Adediran described Oyedokun as a peaceful and humble man who devoted more than two decades of his life to teaching.

He said the deceased attended Oke Ogun before relocating and was later transferred back to his hometown last year.

According to him, the late teacher remained close to his family and often visited his parents regularly.

He was a calm person and he did not like violence,” he said.

“He went to primary school, later attended Ogbomoso Baptist High School and furthered his education after secondary school. He was employed as a teacher for about 21 years.

“He first worked at Oke Ogun before he relocated. He was transferred back home last year. He was very accommodating and since he came back to our community, he always visited his parents at least once within 15 days or every weekend.”

“Irreplaceable Loss” – Family Speaks on Pain

The family said Oyedokun’s death has created a huge vacuum because of his personality and closeness with relatives.

He was a good man in our family and this is why his death is a big loss to us, an irreplaceable loss. His death is painful. We can’t even describe his death,” the family said.

“He Had No Child After 10 Years of Marriage” – Family Laments

The family further revealed that the most heartbreaking part of the tragedy was that he died without leaving a child despite being married for over a decade.

“And the most painful part is that he did not leave any child behind. He had a wife but they did not have any child,” the family said.

“They had been married for more than 10 years and despite all their efforts, no child came out of the marriage. And now the same man has died and there is no child to continue his lineage.”

Family Appeals for Respect and Privacy

The family also pleaded with Nigerians to stop circulating graphic videos and images of the deceased, saying it has worsened their grief.

We truly appreciate the love, concern, and sympathy shown towards our family during this painful time,” the family said.

“However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family.

“His loved ones and all of us, his nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives, have been emotionally devastated, especially as these contents keep appearing on social media.”
