I’m Waiting for Government Approval to Flush Out Terrorists in South-West Forest- Sunday Igboho

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared that he is prepared to mobilise his supporters to dislodge terrorists and bandits operating in forests across the South-West, but says he is awaiting approval and support from the Federal Government.

According to Daily Post on Monday, speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, Igboho said insecurity in rural communities has continued to threaten lives, farming activities and economic stability in the region, stressing that local efforts alone cannot succeed without federal backing.

According to him, he and his loyalists possess the manpower needed to confront criminal elements hiding in forests across Yorubaland.

“I need the support of the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South-West. I’m ready to enter the forests in Yorubaland with my boys to flush out terrorists attacking our people in rural communities. We can’t do anything without government approval or support,” he said.

Igboho stated that following his pardon and regained freedom, he is willing to work with authorities to restore peace in the region. He added that insecurity in farming communities has contributed to food shortages and rising inflation, as many farmers have abandoned their farmlands due to fear of attacks.

The activist, known for his outspoken stance against banditry and violent attacks in the South-West, previously led campaigns against suspected criminal herders in parts of Oyo State.

His latest remarks are seen as a softer approach compared to his earlier confrontations with federal authorities.

In July 2021, operatives of the Department of State Services, alongside soldiers, raided his residence in Ibadan over allegations of illegal arms stockpiling. During the operation, three of his aides were reportedly killed while 13 others were arrested. Igboho later fled Nigeria and was arrested in Benin Republic, where he spent more than a year in detention before regaining freedom in March 2022.

Since his return to Nigeria in January 2026, Igboho has visited several prominent Yoruba traditional rulers, including former Oyo State governor Rashidi Ladoja, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and businessman Francis Alao, whom he credited for supporting efforts that facilitated his return.
