Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has dismissed allegations that he is working for the All Progressives Congress to destabilize the Labour Party, insisting instead that Abia State Governor Alex Otti played a central role in triggering the party’s internal crisis.
Abure made the remarks during an exclusive interview on Symfoni TV on Monday, May 25, 2026, while responding to allegations made by members of the Nenadi Usman-led faction of the party.
During the interview, the presenter asked Abure to react to claims that he had allegedly infiltrated the Labour Party on behalf of the APC. “The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, and some others have alleged that you are an APC infiltrator into the party, sent to destabilize the party. How do you respond to this?” the interviewer asked.
Responding, Abure dismissed the allegation and said events in the coming weeks would reveal who was truly working against the party’s interests. “Well, in the next couple of weeks and few days, we’ll know who is actually used by the APC to infiltrate the party, whether it is Alex Otti or myself. It will be very clear very soon as to who is being used by APC or who is not being used by anybody to destabilize the party,” he said.
He also claimed that both politicians were later granted sole tickets for the 2027 elections in order to preserve the momentum of the party. “In 2024, in the convention that brought in this leadership, Alex Otti and Peter Obi were given free tickets and sole tickets for the 2027 general election,” he said. “So that they can use that three years, sustain that momentum, and win the 2027 general election,” Abure added.
The Labour Party chairman questioned why someone who had supported the political ambitions of party leaders would then be accused of working to destroy the same party. “Does such person, does such personality, look like who would be used by a political party to destabilize the party?” he asked.
Abure then directly accused Governor Otti of contributing to the crisis currently affecting the Labour Party. “I want to tell you clearly that it’s Alex Otti himself that is being used to destabilize the party,” he stated.
According to him, the internal problems within the party began after meetings allegedly held in Umuahia involving Otti and Peter Obi. “Alex Otti and Peter Obi were the ones who went to Umuahia, if you recall, and had picked people to set up the caretaker committee that functionalized the party,” he said. “And that’s where the crisis of the party started. Is that my making? Am I the one that created that?” he added.
Abure concluded by insisting that he was not acting on behalf of any external political interest but was only defending his position within the party. “So the monster that has affected the party was actually created by Alex Otti, followed by Peter Obi, as you can see. So, I’m not being used in any way. I’m only defending myself,” he stated….See More
