Nollywood actress and filmmaker Sandra Okunzuwa has opened up about how a past relationship ended because of a romantic movie scene she acted in.
Speaking during a recent episode of the BTS Reality podcast, the actress revealed that her former boyfriend broke up with her after receiving a clip from one of her movies where she shared a kiss with a fellow actor.
According to Okunzuwa, many people misunderstand what happens behind the scenes during intimate movie scenes, insisting that there is nothing romantic about filming such moments.
She explained that actors perform under intense conditions, often surrounded by crew members and constant instructions from directors throughout the shoot.
“When actors are kissing on set, there are several people around watching, while the director keeps giving instructions. Sometimes even the air conditioner is turned off during filming. So it is difficult for anyone to feel emotionally involved or excited in that environment,” she said.
The actress admitted that she personally does not enjoy filming kissing scenes and would not mind if such scenes were completely removed from movies, provided audiences still enjoy the films.
Okunzuwa added that romantic scenes can create tension in real-life relationships because some partners may struggle with jealousy or insecurity.
Reflecting on her own experience, she said she initially considered her ex-boyfriend’s reaction immature, but later realised that dating an actor is not something everyone can comfortably handle.
“I once lost a relationship because somebody sent my ex a scene where I kissed another actor. At first, I felt he was being insecure, but honestly, it is not easy. I understand why some people choose not to date actors because everyone has their limits,” she explained.
She also urged viewers to remember that actors are simply playing scripted roles and should not be judged based on the characters they portray on screen.
The movie star stressed the importance of separating an actor’s professional duties from their personal life.
