The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee as part of preparations for its governorship and National Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the move was in line with its commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection processes.
In a statement signed by the National Secretary, Hon. (Barr.) Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party said the decision was approved by the National Leader of the party on the recommendation of the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the statement, the committee is expected to review, scrutinise, and consider reports and recommendations submitted by the National Screening Committee and take decisions on the screening outcomes of aspirants seeking to contest on the party’s platform.
Former political adviser Buba Galadima, political scientist Prof. Udenta Udenta, and activist Yunusa Tanko are among the prominent figures named as members of the committee.
Others appointed into the committee include Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as chairman, Comrade Babatunde Ali, Alhaji Sidi Abdul Bomi, Alhaji Mohammed Bakin Zuwo, Dr. Danlami Arabs, Barrister Fredrick E. According to the NDC, the process is aimed at promoting consensus-building and ensuring the emergence of widely acceptable candidates through a free, fair, and credible mechanism.
The party further stated that only aspirants screened and cleared by both the National Screening Committee and the National Selection Committee would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.
It added that where consensus fails, the party would conduct direct primaries scheduled to hold between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in line with its established guidelines.
The National Selection Committee is expected to be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, after which it will hold its inaugural meeting.
