According to security sources, the incident occurred at a hotel in Wuse Zone 5, where the suspect allegedly met a woman through an online dating arrangement. The officers reportedly stormed the scene after receiving alerts and prevented what could have escalated into a more serious crime.

The victim was reportedly found restrained inside the hotel room, while the suspect attempted to flee the scene before he was apprehended.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect may have used social networking and dating platforms, including Tinder and Badoo, to connect with women as part of a wider pattern of alleged fraudulent activity.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect has links to other similar incidents involving online-based meetings arranged through hookup platforms.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to engaging in fraudulent activities targeting women he met online. He is also alleged to have confessed to previous similar incidents, though these claims are still under investigation by law enforcement.

Officials say the suspect claimed the intention was robbery rather than harm, but investigators are treating the case as a serious violent crime attempt pending further evidence.

The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to tackling rising cases of cyber-enabled crimes and warned residents to exercise caution when meeting strangers through online platforms.

Authorities also urged the public to verify identities and avoid isolated meetings arranged through unverified online interactions.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, and he is expected to be charged in court once preliminary inquiries are completed.

Security agencies say more details will be released as the case progresses.
