One Acre Fund Nigeria is set to distribute 9,000 tonnes of agricultural inputs on credit to 88,000 smallholder farmers in Niger State as part of efforts to support food production ahead of the 2026 planting season.
The organisation disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Minna by its Communications Lead, Kazi Nanyah.
According to the statement, the initiative is aimed at addressing major challenges affecting farmers, especially limited access to credit and difficulties in getting farm inputs before the planting season.
Nanyah said the distribution exercise is already ongoing and is expected to be completed on or before May 31, 2026.
“Distribution of the agricultural inputs is currently underway and scheduled to be completed by May 31, 2026. One Acre Fund Nigeria is committed to supporting smallholder farmers in having access to efficient distribution of agricultural inputs,” he said.
He explained that farmers participating in the programme often record improved harvests, with many nearly doubling their maize yields.
According to him, households under the programme also see an average income increase of about $328 per farming season.
Nanyah added that women and young people make up more than 35 per cent of the beneficiaries in the phased distribution exercise.
“The phased distribution is with women and youth representing over 35% of participating farmers ahead of the planting season to address persistent barriers of limited credit access,” he stated.
One Acre Fund Nigeria said the intervention forms part of its broader effort to strengthen food security and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers across the country.
