Sad: 29-year-old Sociology graduate of the Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, was allegedly murd€red last Thursday night and her body dumped in a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja

A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, was allegedly murdered, with her body later found in a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja, according to family accounts reported to the media.

Speaking to _Abuja Metro_, Blessing’s sister, Abigail Moshood, said Blessing left their home around 8pm after speaking with someone on the phone. About an hour later, she called again to say she would return briefly to pick up a phone charger she had forgotten. The family said they did not hear from her again and she did not return home the following day.

Abigail said the family became alarmed after hearing residents discuss the discovery of a woman’s body in a canal. The description of the hairstyle matched Blessing’s. “My mother started crying, and we also learnt that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State,” she said.

Abigail later visited the Jikwoyi Police Station and was shown photographs that confirmed the deceased was her sister.

Neighbours described Blessing as intelligent and friendly. One neighbour, Margaret, said Blessing graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology and was known for her communication skills. “Whenever she spoke, you could hardly fault her English,” Margaret said. “She was also very friendly in this neighbourhood and will be greatly missed by all of us, especially the children who have been crying since they learnt of her death”.

Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, appealed to the police to deploy detectives to areas around Jikwoyi Medical Centre to address cases of phone snatching and related crimes.

The incident has renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, particularly around Jikwoyi and Mararaba, where residents say petty crime and violent attacks have persisted.

As of the time of reporting, the FCT Police Command had not released an official statement on the case. The body was reportedly evacuated to a mortuary in Mararaba, and family members said they were working with the police to identify the circumstances surrounding her death….See More
