A stolen motorcycle taken from Ado Ekiti in the early hours of Wednesday has been successfully recovered in Ondo State, thanks to a built-in tracking device that led police to a suspected theft location in Akure.
According to eyewitness accounts, the motorcycle—belonging to a young resident of the Falegan area in Ado Ekiti—was discovered missing around 6:00 a.m. from within a fenced compound. Acting swiftly, the owner activated the bike’s tracking system, which initially traced its movement to the popular Benin Garage axis in Akure.
Further tracking narrowed the signal to a residence in the Shasha area along Owo Road by about 9:00 a.m. The owner promptly alerted the police, who accompanied him to the exact location.
Upon arrival, officers detained both the landlord and a tenant linked to the room identified by the tracker. A search of the locked apartment yielded four motorcycles—three bearing Ekiti registration numbers and one from Ondo State.
Two of the recovered Ekiti bikes were identified with plate numbers TUN-426QB and TUN-901QB, while the third remains unverified as of press time.
In addition, officers reportedly discovered a locally made soap in the room, though its purpose has not yet been determined.
All suspects have been taken into custody as investigations continue.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for residents—particularly motorcycle owners—to adopt tracking technology, amid a growing wave of vehicle and bike thefts across Ekiti State.
Authorities have also urged individuals who have recently lost motorcycles to visit Division A Police Station in Akure to verify if their property is among the recovered items.
