2027 Politics: Babachir Lawal Rules Out APC, ADC, Says He’s Considering New Political Direction

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has ruled out supporting both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he begins to shape his political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lawal made this position known following his exit from the ADC, a move he linked to dissatisfaction with the party’s internal processes, particularly its recent presidential primary. He alleged that the exercise fell short of democratic expectations and raised concerns about fairness in the selection process.

According to him, recent developments within the ADC convinced him that continuing with the party would not align with his political values. He also expressed broader disappointment with the state of political parties in Nigeria, suggesting that both the APC and ADC no longer represent viable platforms for his political engagement.

While he has not officially announced his next political destination, Lawal stated that he is currently consulting widely with political associates and stakeholders to determine his next move. He hinted that his future support will depend on identifying a credible platform that reflects his views on leadership, governance, and national development.

He also maintained his critical stance on the political direction of key figures and parties, emphasizing the need for a stronger and more accountable leadership structure as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.

With political realignments already beginning to take shape across the country, Lawal’s next move is expected to attract attention within Nigeria’s political space, especially given his influence and long-standing involvement in national politics.
