Army Arrests Five Suspected BanditInformants, Recovers Cash and Devices in Niger

Troops of Operation Savannah Shield have arrested five suspected bandit and t+rrorist informants in separate operations across Niger State.

According to the Acting Media Information Officer of JTF North Central, Captain Jamilu Yahaya, three suspects were arrested on June 6 along the Doro axis in Wawa, Borgu LGA.

Preliminary investigations linked them to a bandit group operating around the fringes of Kainji Lake National Park.

Recovered items included two Tecno phones, an MP3 device, and ₦113,400. The military said the MP3 contained propaganda messages, including claims of a kidnapping in Kaduna State and the collection of a ₦60 million ransom.

In another operation, troops of the 221 Battalion arrested two suspects during a patrol near a cantonment fence in Niger State. The military alleged they were gathering intelligence on the facility. One suspect’s phone reportedly contained an image of a beheaded individual dated May 2, 2026.

Items recovered included an Android phone, a Tecno keypad phone, a motorcycle, and ₦86,100.

All five suspects are in custody as investigations continue.
