BREAKING: Gunmen Attack NIPSS in Plateau, Kill Three Security Operatives

Jos, Plateau State – Tragedy struck the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, after suspected gunmen attacked the institution and killed three security operatives during a late-night assault.

According to security sources, the attack occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. when armed assailants stormed the premises of the nation’s foremost policy and strategic studies institution. The attackers reportedly engaged security personnel in a fierce gun battle in an apparent attempt to gain access to the facility.

The security operatives on duty resisted the attack, leading to an exchange of gunfire that lasted several minutes. Preliminary reports indicate that three security personnel, including two soldiers and a police officer, lost their lives while defending the institution.

Residents of the Kuru community and surrounding areas reported hearing sustained gunshots during the incident, causing panic among locals. Witnesses said the sound of gunfire echoed through the area before the attackers eventually retreated.

Sources familiar with the incident stated that the swift response and bravery of the security operatives prevented the gunmen from breaching the facility, which hosts high-ranking government officials, military officers, policymakers, and participants in strategic leadership programmes.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility as of the time of filing this report. Security agencies have reportedly launched an investigation into the incident while reinforcing security around the institution and nearby communities.

The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), located in Kuru near Jos, is regarded as Nigeria’s premier think tank and leadership training institution, making the attack a significant security concern.
