The Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with forest guards, has intercepted a consignment of medical supplies allegedly intended for wounded fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
According to security sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence that led operatives to the movement of the supplies within areas believed to be linked to insurgent activities in the North-East.
The seized consignment reportedly contained various medical items suspected to be intended for the treatment of injured ISWAP members operating in remote locations across Borno State. Authorities have yet to disclose the full contents of the shipment or the exact location where it was intercepted for security reasons.
Sources familiar with the operation described the interception as a major breakthrough in efforts to disrupt the logistical networks that support terrorist activities in the region. Security agencies believe that cutting off access to essential supplies, including medicines and medical equipment, can significantly weaken the operational capacity of insurgent groups.
The development comes amid intensified military and intelligence operations targeting ISWAP and other terrorist factions operating within the Lake Chad Basin region. In recent months, security forces have recorded several successes against insurgent elements through coordinated ground operations and intelligence-driven missions.
Investigations have reportedly commenced to identify individuals and groups connected to the procurement, transportation, and intended delivery of the medical supplies. Security agencies are also working to uncover any broader support networks that may be aiding terrorist operations.
While no official statement has been issued regarding arrests linked to the seizure, security officials have assured that all persons found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
Borno State remains one of the regions most affected by insurgency in Nigeria, with security forces maintaining sustained efforts to restore peace and prevent terrorist groups from regrouping.
The latest interception underscores the growing collaboration between intelligence agencies, local security outfits, and military forces in combating terrorism and disrupting supply chains that sustain insurgent activities in the country.
