Tragedy has deepened in northern Nigeria following the confirmation that two abducted political figures, including Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse, the immediate former APC Chairman of Koko/Besse LGA in Kebbi State, have died while still in captivity.
The confirmation comes after disturbing videos earlier circulated from the Birnin Gwari forest, where the victims were seen in distressing conditions during their abduction ordeal. Both men, who were believed to have been held by armed groups in the forested area, were reportedly never reunited with their families before their deaths.
Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse has now been confirmed dead in captivity, alongside the second unnamed victim captured in the same incident.
The Birnin Gwari axis, particularly the forested areas around Birnin Gwari Forest, has long been associated with kidnapping and armed banditry activities, raising renewed concerns about worsening insecurity in the region.
