Coal City University, Enugu, has rejected recent reports published by Sahara Reporters, describing the allegations against the institution as false, misleading, and damaging to its reputation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the university’s management accused the media platform of publishing unverified claims and presenting a distorted account of the institution’s operations, administration, and recent developments.
The university specifically denied reports alleging salary arrears and staff strike actions, insisting that there is no disruption to its activities and that academic and administrative operations are proceeding as scheduled.
Responding to reports surrounding a June 10 incident involving a student and some university personnel, management stated that it had already taken disciplinary measures by suspending all individuals directly connected to the matter and establishing a Review Committee to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to the institution, the student involved is a beneficiary of its scholarship programme, but stressed that the student’s status would not affect the fairness and transparency of the ongoing review process.
Coal City University also dismissed allegations concerning its academic programmes, particularly claims made in an earlier March 2026 report that it admitted students beyond approved limits into a law programme. The institution maintained that it does not operate a Faculty of Law and has never offered an LL.B. programme.
The management further accused Sahara Reporters of failing to provide the university with an adequate opportunity to respond before publication, warning that the reports could mislead the public and unjustly tarnish the institution’s image.
As a result, the university disclosed that it has instructed its legal advisers to seek an immediate retraction and correction of the publication, insisting that responsible journalism requires accuracy, balance, and proper verification.
Reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, institutional integrity, and student development, Coal City University vowed to pursue all lawful measures necessary to protect its reputation against what it described as false and malicious allegations.
