The Edo State Police Command has arrested several suspected kidnappers linked to a deadly abduction case in which victims were allegedly killed despite the payment of an ₦11 million ransom by their families.
According to security sources, the suspects were apprehended during coordinated operations carried out by police operatives and other security agencies across parts of Edo State following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance.
Authorities disclosed that the kidnappers had allegedly abducted multiple victims along a major route in the state and later demanded huge sums of money from their families. Despite the reported payment of about ₦11 million to secure the victims’ release, the victims were allegedly murdered by the criminal gang.
Police operatives later recovered the bodies of the victims from a suspected hideout used by the kidnappers during ongoing rescue and tracking operations.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, said the command remains committed to dismantling kidnapping networks terrorizing residents and travelers across the state.
He noted that the recent crackdown led to the arrest of several suspects, recovery of ransom proceeds, weapons, military-style uniforms, and other items allegedly used during criminal operations.
“The command will continue to intensify operations against kidnappers and other violent criminals threatening public safety in Edo State,” the police commissioner reportedly stated.
Security agencies have launched further investigations to identify other members of the syndicate who are currently on the run.
