As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen legislative oversight, accountability, and effective parliamentary administration, the House of Representatives has announced minor changes to the leadership of select Standing Committees.
The changes were announced by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas following the recent reconstitution of the Minority Caucus leadership.
According to the changes, Aliyu Sani Madaki (APC-Kano) was appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties, succeeding Rep. Fred Agbedi (PDP-Bayelsa), who now serves as House Minority Leader.
Similarly, Rep. Ali Isa J.C. (ADC-Gombe) was appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Shipping Services, succeeding Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki (ADC-Sokoto), who now serves as House Deputy Minority Leader.
The reshuffle also saw Rep. Paschal Agbodike (APGA-Anambra) redeployed from the House Committee on Hydrological Services/HYPADEC to chair the House Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), previously chaired by Rep. Mansur Manu Soro (APM, Bauchi), who now serves as House Minority Whip.
Consequently, Rep. Kelechi Nwogu (PDP, Rivers) was appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Hydrological Services/HYPADEC.
A statement on Monday said: “The adjustments reflect the House’s commitment to maintaining effective committee leadership, strengthening institutional oversight, and ensuring the continued discharge of its constitutional responsibilities in service to the Nigerian people.”
