According to The Punch, Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has called for a full investigation into the alleged leak of voter information from the INEC’s CVR database, saying the commission’s explanation has raised more questions than it answered.
Atiku noted that INEC admitted the information was accessed using valid official credentials and released without authorisation, shifting concerns from external hacking to possible internal compromise and political interference. In a statement by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, he demanded clarity on how restricted voter data ended up in public hands.
“What Nigerians want to know is simple, how did information within a restricted electoral database find its way into the hands of political actors and their associates?” he said. Atiku highlighted that the data was publicly released by Lere Olayinka, spokesman to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, rather than through whistleblowers or journalists.
The former vice president linked the leak to Wike’s recent comments predicting that Atiku would secure less than 10 percent of votes in Rivers State in 2027, questioning whether certain political actors enjoy privileged access to supposedly neutral institutions.
Atiku called for the disclosure of the full chain of custody of the leaked data and welcomed the DSS investigation, urging INEC to publish its findings. “The credibility of the 2027 election depends on transparency, accountability, and public trust, not secrecy and unanswered questions,” he said.
INEC has confirmed no hacking occurred, identified the user account involved, questioned relevant personnel, and handed the matter over to the DSS for an independent probe….See More
