Kehl emerges as AC Milan’s top director candidate

AC Milan have reportedly identified former Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastian Kehl as a leading candidate to become the club’s new technical director as they continue to reshape their sporting structure under manager Ruben Amorim.

The Rossoneri are seeking a new figure to oversee football operations following a disappointing campaign and changes to their sporting leadership.

According to reports from Italy, Milan turned their attention to Kehl after failing in an attempt to lure Markus Krosche away from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kehl is currently available after ending his long association with Borussia Dortmund earlier this year.

The German is regarded as an attractive option because of his experience in European football and his role in a recruitment system widely recognised for identifying and developing top talent.

Milan’s interest has been strengthened by the recent collapse of Kehl’s proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Dortmund executive reportedly held advanced talks with the Premier League club and travelled to London for discussions, but negotiations broke down after both parties failed to agree on the club’s long-term strategic direction.

That development has left Kehl available as Milan seek to build a structure capable of supporting Amorim’s plans at San Siro.

Club owner Gerry Cardinale is said to be keen on creating a high-performance environment around the Portuguese coach and wants a director capable of working closely with the manager’s vision for the first-team squad.

The search for a technical director is viewed as a key part of Milan’s summer plans, with Amorim already identifying reinforcements he believes can accelerate the implementation of his tactical system.

Among his priority targets are Sporting CP duo Morten Hjulmand and Francisco Trincao.

Milan believe Kehl’s experience and reputation could prove valuable in what are expected to be challenging negotiations for both players.

Hjulmand has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Manchester City, although Milan hope Amorim’s relationship with the Danish midfielder could strengthen their position.

Trincao is also admired by the club, with his versatility viewed as a good fit for the style and direction Milan want to establish under Amorim.

The appointment of a new technical director is expected to be one of the club’s most important decisions as preparations continue for the new season.
