Netanyahu vows Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons while he remains Israel's Prime Minister

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday reiterated his long-standing opposition to Iran’s nuclear programme, declaring that Tehran would not obtain nuclear weapons as long as he remains in office.

In a statement posted on social media, Netanyahu said he and US President Donald Trump were in complete agreement on the issue of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel – Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.
The Israeli leader said he has been at the forefront of international efforts against Iran’s nuclear programme for more than three decades, arguing that those efforts had prevented Tehran from obtaining atomic weapons.

“Were it not for this struggle, Iran would have long ago possessed atomic bombs to destroy Israel,” he said.

Netanyahu further accused Iran of seeking the destruction of the Jewish state and said preventing that outcome remains a central objective of his leadership.

“Iran is working to destroy the Jewish state, and I am dedicating my life to preventing them from doing so,” he said.

The remarks come amid continued tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and renewed scrutiny of Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, with Netanyahu reiterating that Israel would remain committed to ensuring Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.

“As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel, this will not happen,” he said.

Recent developments

Earlier, yesterday US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he has cancelled planned military strikes against Iran, claiming that high-level discussions involving Iran and several regional stakeholders had led to a breakthrough.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said talks with Iran had been elevated to the country’s highest leadership levels and had received approval, prompting the cancellation of strikes and bombings that were scheduled for later in the day.

The announcement had came just hours after Trump threatened major military action against Iran, saying the United States would strike the country “very hard” and suggesting that key Iranian oil infrastructure could eventually come under US control.
