Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested four notorious cultists and suspected contract killers linked to a series of violent crimes and killings in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, and its environs.
The suspects are identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo, popularly known as “Oblo” (35), Ayola Israel, alias “Essy Pawpaw” (39), Ebuka Nnamdi (31), and Chinedu Okafor (22).
They were arrested during a targeted operation at a hotel in Ajangbadi following credible intelligence gathered by the police.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, to rid the state of cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
According to the statement, police investigations uncovered disturbing evidence linking the suspects to multiple violent attacks in the area.
It was learnt that detectives recovered a video from one of the suspects’ mobile phones allegedly showing the killing of unidentified victims within Ajanmgbadi and neighbouring communities.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity and admitted involvement in several killings and acts of violence that had terrorised residents of the area.
Further searches conducted by police operatives led to the recovery of three firearms, comprising two locally fabricated pistols and one revolver pistol, as well as 13 live cartridges believed to have been used in carrying out their criminal activities.
The PPRO said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases, identify additional members of the gang, and apprehend fleeing accomplices.
“The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Adebisi added.
Reacting, CP Fatai commended the officers for the successful operation and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Lagos of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, that could aid crime-fighting efforts across the state, through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
