RSU Bans Undergraduates From Driving Cars Around Campus After Student’s Death

Port Harcourt, Nigeria — Rivers State University (RSU) has announced a new policy restricting undergraduate students from driving personal vehicles within the university campus, following a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a student.

The decision was contained in an official press release issued by the Office of the Registrar on June 24, 2026. According to the statement, the university management expressed deep sorrow over the death of Miss Enu Udoson, a resident of the institution’s main campus, whose demise occurred on June 23, 2026.

The university disclosed that preliminary findings linked the incident to the alleged reckless driving of two students. The suspects have reportedly been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In response to the incident, the university management convened an emergency meeting and approved a series of measures aimed at enhancing safety and regulating vehicular movement within the campus.

Under the new regulations, undergraduate students who bring personal vehicles to the university will no longer be permitted to drive them around the campus. Instead, such vehicles must be parked at the designated car park located near the institution’s main entrance. Students will thereafter be required to either walk or make use of the university’s authorized shuttle services for transportation within the campus.

The university also announced that undergraduate students are prohibited from driving personal vehicles into the campus between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

In addition, management warned that any student found engaging in reckless driving would face strict disciplinary measures, including suspension and the impoundment of their vehicle.

The statement further clarified that postgraduate students and those enrolled in the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) may continue to drive personal vehicles within the campus, provided they present valid university identification cards.
