Troops Rescue 47 Abductees From ISWAP Enclave In Borno

The Nigerian military has said its troops rescued no fewer than 47 persons, mostly women and children, from captivity in an enclave controlled by the Islamic State West Africa Province in Borno State.

The victims were freed during a coordinated ground and air offensive carried out by the Joint Task Force, North-East, codenamed Operation Hadin Kai, in Kangarwa area of Kukawa Local Government Area.

Acting Military Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Captain Mohammed Musa, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the operation took place on June 20, 2026.

He said the rescue followed sustained military pressure on террорист enclaves around the Lake Chad region, forcing the insurgents to abandon their positions and flee.

Musa stated, “Troops of Operation Hadin Kai recorded another significant humanitarian success with the rescue of over 47 persons held captive by ISWAP terrorists.

“The unrelenting ground and air offensives compelled the terrorists to withdraw in disarray, creating the opportunity for the victims to escape from prolonged captivity.”

According to him, the rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention at a secure location, while relevant government agencies are providing humanitarian assistance to facilitate their rehabilitation and reintegration.

The military spokesman added that the operation underscores the renewed commitment of troops to not only neutralise insurgents but also secure the release of civilians held against their will.

He reaffirmed that the Theatre Command would sustain ongoing offensives aimed at dismantling remaining terrorist networks and restoring peace across the North-East.

The latest development comes amid intensified military operations targeting insurgent strongholds in Borno and other parts of the region, as security forces continue efforts to degrade the operational capacity of ISWAP and other extremist groups.
