A 68-year-old retired military officer from Ziwa, Uasin Gishu County, is still in shock after discovering a death certificate bearing his name, indicating that he died in 2023.

The elderly man, David Muigei, who is very much alive, summoned elders from his community to address the matter after unknown individuals allegedly produced the document.
Muigei retired from the military more than 10 years ago and had been living a quiet life in retirement until he discovered that ownership of his car had been transferred to another person.

How did retired KDF soldier find his death certificate?
He did not understand how his vehicle, a Toyota Harrier he had purchased and intended to use during his retirement, ended up registered under another person’s name without his consent, prompting him to launch investigations.
It was during the inquiry that he allegedly discovered a death certificate indicating he had passed away at a hospital in Eldoret.
“These people used the death certificate to change the car ownership. As you see me now, I died on 12 October 2023, according to the certificate. It indicates where I died, and I do not understand the exact illness that allegedly killed me, but it is written there,” he stated.
Elders in Ziwa expressed shock at how such a document could be processed for a man who is still alive.
The hospital named on the certificate denied involvement in the matter, saying there are no records showing that Muigei was admitted or died at their facility.

“I have never heard of this since I was born, children colluding with their mother to harm me and take my property, yet they hold big jobs and wealth,” said the distraught man.
One of the elders who spoke on the matter noted that they had been in contact with Muigei during the time he was allegedly declared dead and was shocked to see the death certificate.
