Her daughter, who survived both the fire and the stampede that left 79 students injured, emotionally spoke about the tragedy.
“I waited for Mum and Dad and kept wondering why they had not arrived. It was already 2 p.m., and there was no sign of them. I was so angry because they knew I had back pain,” she said while recalling the fateful day.
Why Faith Koskei’s daughter holds no grudge
Although her dormitory was not affected by the fire, she was caught up in the stampede as students scrambled for safety during the night.
She said the incident left her traumatised for life because it led to her mother’s death and serious injuries to her father, Emmanuel, who was among the occupants of the vehicle involved in the accident.
“I do not have a grudge against the arson suspects. I wanted to hate them. I was definitely very angry, but my mum always taught me never to hate because hatred would not reverse what has happened. No punishment will ever be enough to compensate for my mother’s death,” she added.

Faith Koskei’s appeal to county government
He noted that he rarely made any major decision without consulting her because she was a woman of wisdom, intelligence, and great insight.
“I appeal to the county government to help us because of the overwhelming hospital bills and other financial burdens we are facing. Emmanuel underwent surgery yesterday, and it was successful. However, he still requires another operation,” he said.
The family is also pushing for justice, not only for themselves but for all the families affected by the tragedy who are still struggling to recover.
