The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three armed men who allegedly attacked a female motorist along the Ondo–Ile-Oluji Road in a failed robbery attempt, heightening concerns over security on the busy highway.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Otaasan area, where the victim, Mrs. Adebusoye Atinuke, 50, was reportedly driving when the assailants emerged from the roadside and opened fire on her vehicle in an attempt to force her to stop.

According to the police, the suspects failed to carry out the robbery after the victim remained composed and drove away from the scene unharmed.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command said officers responded promptly to a distress call and immediately launched an intensive search of the surrounding area, including nearby bushes, in a bid to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Police said the gunmen escaped into a nearby forest, adding that investigations have been intensified to identify, track and arrest those responsible for the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

“The Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State. We have commenced a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to identify, track and arrest the perpetrators of this attack,” the commissioner said.
