Authorities say the investigation remains active and they have not given up hope of finding him or uncovering crucial information about his whereabouts.
The newly installed billboard is part of an effort to bring renewed public attention to the case and generate fresh leads that may have gone unreported over the past year.
“We want these two families to understand that we know they haven’t given up hope and we won’t either,” read a statement on the City of Calera Police Department Facebook page.
According to police, the initiative was made possible through a donation from Alabama Cold Case Advocacy, an organisation that supports investigations into unresolved missing persons and cold cases.
Investigators believe that even the smallest detail could prove valuable in advancing the missing person’s case.
“Someone may know something and not realise how important that information is,” authorities said while encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report anything they may remember.

The family, which has endured months of uncertainty and anguish, continues to hold onto hope that answers will eventually emerge.
Community members have repeatedly joined search efforts and shared appeals on social media in a bid to help locate him.
Police hope the billboard will reach people who may have been in the area at the time of Waithaka’s disappearance or who may have information that was never previously reported.
More than a year on, investigators insist the case remains a priority and that every lead continues to be examined.
Anyone with information regarding Reuben Waithaka’s disappearance is urged to contact the Calera Police Department.
Authorities emphasise that no piece of information is too small and that what may appear insignificant could provide the breakthrough needed to solve the mystery.
For Waithaka’s family, the billboard represents more than a public appeal; it is a sign that the search continues and that their loved one has not been forgotten.
