A Senior Editor with the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Waheed Ogunjobi, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Policy and Strategic Communication from Lagos State University, Ojo.

The doctorate was conferred following the successful defence of his thesis before an academic panel chaired by communication scholar, Sola Adeyanju.

Ogunjobi’s research, titled Newspapers’ Framing of Rural Grazing Area Policy in Nigeria, examined the media’s role in shaping public perception and influencing policy outcomes, particularly in relation to contentious national issues.

Findings from the study revealed critical gaps in policy communication and underscored the need for improved media engagement through thematic framing, data-driven journalism, and conflict-sensitive reporting.

Speaking after the award, Ogunjobi stressed the importance of effective communication in driving development.

He said, “Effective communication is key to development, and the media has a significant role in shaping public perception and influencing policy outcomes.”

He further called on journalists to prioritise accuracy and balance in reportage, warning against sensationalism.

“The media has a responsibility to provide accurate and balanced information, avoiding sensationalism while promoting conflict-sensitive reporting,” he added.

Ogunjobi, a development communication enthusiast, is a member of the Civil Society on Sustainable Development, where he contributes to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

His academic trajectory reflects a consistent record of excellence. He attended Egba Comprehensive High School, Abeokuta, before obtaining an Upper Credit in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

He later earned a First Class degree from Crescent University, Abeokuta, and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.

He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ogun State chapter, and is also a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Colleagues described his achievement as a testament to dedication to professional development and scholarship in the field of communication.
