A dispatch rider has died in a road traffic crash involving a truck in Lagos State, less than 24 hours after another fatal accident involving a motorcyclist was recorded on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, intensifying concerns over road safety on major transport corridors.
The latest incident occurred in Lagos, where the rider reportedly collided with a heavy-duty truck while navigating traffic. Emergency responders and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were said to have arrived at the scene shortly after the crash.
The victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to the severity of the impact. The body was later evacuated, and the wreckage was cleared to restore normal traffic flow in the affected area.
The tragedy comes barely a day after a similar fatal accident was recorded along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, where another dispatch rider lost his life after being struck by a vehicle under circumstances still being reviewed by traffic authorities.
The back-to-back incidents have raised renewed concerns among road safety officials and commuters over the increasing vulnerability of motorcycle dispatch riders operating on high-traffic highways shared with heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles.
Road safety stakeholders have repeatedly warned about the dangers posed by:
Congested traffic conditions on major Lagos routes
High-speed movement of trucks and trailers
Frequent lane indiscipline among motorists
Limited protective infrastructure for motorcycle operators
Officials of LASTMA have continued to urge strict compliance with traffic regulations, particularly among dispatch riders and truck drivers, to reduce avoidable road deaths.
