According to eyewitness accounts and viral videos circulating online, the victim – identified in reports as Mrs. Misitura Akanke – was ambushed while gathering vegetables near a bush. The gruesome attack has left residents terrified, with many claiming bandits are becoming bolder and more frequent in the region.

Angry villagers are raising serious alarms over the growing wave of attacks on innocent people. Many are questioning the deafening silence from political leaders, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders who are expected to protect lives and speak up against the rising violence.

“Our mothers and sisters are no longer safe even in their own farms,” one resident lamented.
“This is no longer just a northern problem – bandits are now in Oyo!” another warned.
Calls for immediate government intervention and deployment of more security forces are growing louder by the hour.

Oyo State Police have since arrested two suspects linked to the killing, but the incident has already fueled widespread panic in Ibadan and surrounding areas. The brutal nature of the crime – allegedly involving rape before murder – has left families traumatised and communities on edge.

This latest attack comes amid broader concerns about insecurity creeping into previously peaceful parts of Oyo State. Farmers, women, and travellers now live in constant fear as stories of banditry, kidnapping, and violence multiply.
