The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed claims that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, demanded automatic presidential tickets from the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The allegation was made by the National Chairman of the PRP, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who said the discussions collapsed after both politicians allegedly sought assurances of securing the party’s presidential ticket without going through internal competition.
Speaking during an interview with DITV Kaduna, Baba-Ahmed explained that the PRP maintained its position that all aspirants must participate in its internal democratic process, stressing that automatic tickets were not part of the party’s structure.
He said, “Before they joined, they told us they were presidential candidates, meaning they should be given the ticket. We told them no, this is PRP; we do not practice that kind of politics.”
However, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has denied the claims, describing them as false and misleading.
Spokesperson of the movement, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, said there was no formal meeting in which Kwankwaso or Obi requested any presidential ticket from the PRP.
“There was no official sitting where my principal or Peter Obi directly requested a ticket,” Mohammed said.
He added that although the PRP had publicly invited both politicians to join the party, no such conditions or demands were ever made during any engagement.
Mohammed further suggested that Baba-Ahmed’s comments were politically motivated and aimed at drawing attention amid the growing influence of both figures.
He dismissed the allegation, saying, “The claim that we approached them for a ticket is baseless and should not have even warranted a response.”
The controversy comes amid reports linking both politicians with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as they reportedly position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
