President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the successful dismantling of a Nigerian-Mexican drug syndicate and a sophisticated multi-million-dollar illegal drug production network operating in Nigeria.
In a statement released by the Presidency, Tinubu praised the anti-narcotics agency for what he described as a major breakthrough in the fight against transnational organised crime and illicit drug trafficking in the country.
The President commended the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), alongside officers and personnel of the agency for their professionalism, bravery, and dedication during the operation.
According to reports, the operation led to the discovery and destruction of a large illegal methamphetamine production facility allegedly operated by a criminal network involving Nigerian traffickers and foreign collaborators, including Mexican nationals.
Security sources revealed that the illegal laboratory was hidden in a remote forest area in Ogun State, where suspects reportedly produced and distributed hard drugs worth several millions of dollars. Operatives also recovered massive quantities of methamphetamine, precursor chemicals, and equipment used for the production of synthetic narcotics.
Several suspects were arrested during the raid, while investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the international drug cartel and their local collaborators.
President Tinubu described the operation as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to combating drug trafficking, organised crime, and criminal networks threatening national security and public safety.
The successful operation sends a strong warning to criminal organisations that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for illicit drug production and trafficking, the President reportedly stated.
He further warned that drug abuse and trafficking continue to pose serious dangers to Nigerian youths, families, and communities, stressing that the government would continue strengthening law enforcement agencies to tackle the menace.
Tinubu also urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information that could help expose criminal activities in their communities.
The NDLEA has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking networks in recent months, recording several high-profile arrests, seizures, and destruction of illegal drug laboratories across different parts of the country.
The latest operation is being described as one of the biggest anti-drug successes recorded by the agency in recent years, especially due to the international dimension of the syndicate and the scale of the illegal drug production network dismantled.
