The traumatised schoolgirl said the incident occurred while they were in class with their teacher when they suddenly heard gunshots coming from outside the school premises. She alleged that the teacher was the first to flee the classroom, leaving the pupils behind.

According to her account, the students were forced to escape on their own by jumping through the classroom window as the attackers approached. They then ran into the nearby bush to hide for safety.

Aminah explained that they remained hidden in the bush until evening, when they began hearing voices calling out. After the situation appeared safer, they emerged from their hiding places and were later escorted home by local residents from the community.

In her words, she said: “The teacher was the first to run away, leaving us alone. We all had to jump through the window and run into the bush to save ourselves.”

The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity affecting schools and communities in parts of southwestern Nigeria, where recent attacks have raised fears among residents and education stakeholders.
