Yusuf Buhari Clinches APC Reps Ticket in Landslide, Defeats Ex-DSS DG’s Son in Katsina

Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency after a sweeping victory in the party’s primary election held on Saturday.

The exercise, conducted in Daura, saw Buhari secure a commanding win with 17,342 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Auwalu Musa Daura, who polled 480 votes.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the constituency’s APC primary election committee, Lawal Garba, declared Buhari the winner, describing the process as transparent and in line with party guidelines. He subsequently presented him as the party’s flagbearer for the forthcoming general elections.

The outcome effectively positions Buhari as the APC candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking shortly after his declaration, Yusuf Buhari expressed gratitude to party members and supporters across the constituency, pledging inclusiveness and unity within the party.

“I will embrace everyone and carry all party members along to ensure that APC emerges victorious in the general elections,” he said, adding that he appreciated the massive turnout that backed his candidacy.

However, his opponent, Auwalu Musa Daura, son of former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, rejected the outcome, alleging widespread irregularities in the conduct of the primary.

He claimed that the process fell short of the APC’s internal electoral guidelines, insisting that many of those who participated in the voting were not registered party members.

“I am not satisfied with what happened today. Evidence is everywhere showing the injustice that was done,” he alleged, adding that the counting process was flawed and lacked credibility.

Daura further argued that his participation was driven by a desire to promote internal democracy, fairness, and equal opportunity within the ruling party, stressing the need for transparent procedures to sustain members’ confidence in the APC.

The primary election is expected to further shape political dynamics in Katsina State, where the APC continues to maintain a strong electoral base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
