INEC Chairman Leads Delegation on Study Visit to South Korean Electoral Institutions

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, on Monday led members of the Commission’s delegation on a visit to key electoral institutions in South Korea as part of the International Election Observation Programme (IEOP) for the country’s Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections.

The delegation visited the headquarters of the South Korean National Election Commission (NEC) and the Korean Civic Education Institute (KOCIE), where they engaged with officials on the development and management of Korea’s electoral system.

According to INEC, the visit formed part of efforts to deepen understanding of global best practices in election administration, with particular emphasis on electoral processes, institutional frameworks, and the deployment of technology in conducting elections.

During the engagements, officials of the NEC and KOCIE delivered presentations highlighting the evolution of South Korea’s electoral system and the role of technology in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and public confidence in the electoral process.

The discussions also provided insights into the facilities, innovations, and civic education initiatives employed by South Korean electoral authorities to strengthen democratic participation and ensure credible elections.

The visit is expected to enrich INEC’s knowledge-sharing efforts and contribute to ongoing conversations on improving electoral administration and democratic governance in Nigeria.
