Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Samson Onilewaji, after he was allegedly found in possession of a suspected human hand, firearms, axes and items believed to have been stolen from robbery victims.
The command said the suspect was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway after officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus conveying six occupants.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one Point of Sale terminal and five Automated Teller Machine cards.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect confessed during interrogation to recently robbing three persons of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
She added that efforts were ongoing to trace and contact the victims for the return of the recovered items.
Adebisi said investigators had also launched a probe to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, how the suspect came into possession of it and the purpose for which it was allegedly being kept.
She said, “Further efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend other criminal associates connected with the suspect. The suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support crime prevention and enhance public safety.
