Police Arrest Suspect as FUPRE Student Dies in Alleged Brother-to-Brother Stabbing

Effurun, Delta State – Tragedy struck the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, after a student reportedly died from injuries sustained during an alleged stabbing incident involving his elder brother following a dispute linked to a hostel disagreement.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening behind Hostel C within the university community. Sources revealed that the deceased, a 100-level student, and his elder brother, who was also said to be residing in the hostel, became involved in a heated altercation inside their room.

Witnesses stated that the initial confrontation was reportedly brought under control by other occupants of the hostel. However, the disagreement later resumed outside the building, where it allegedly escalated into violence.

The victim was reportedly stabbed multiple times during the altercation and was later discovered lying critically injured in a bushy area behind the hostel. Students who found him immediately raised the alarm and rushed him to the university’s medical centre for emergency treatment.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, the student was pronounced dead after allegedly losing a significant amount of blood.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspect had been arrested and taken into custody. He added that investigations were ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal incident.

The Vice-Chancellor of FUPRE, Professor Ezekiel Agbalagba, also confirmed the student’s death, describing the incident as unfortunate. University authorities are expected to cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue.
