The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has stirred public discussion after attributing the country’s economic resilience to the power of prayer despite ongoing financial challenges.
During his speech, Pastor Adeboye said Nigeria was already experiencing serious economic difficulties before the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office. According to him, the situation was further worsened by individuals who opposed some of the government’s policies.
In his remarks, the respected cleric said:
“Before Tinubu came into power, we were already having financial problems. Some people hated his policies and started creating problems and made the Naira fall. Then we prayed. If not for our prayers, 1 dollar would have been 10,000 naira.”
The statement has generated mixed reactions across social media, with supporters describing it as a reflection of faith and divine intervention, while critics argue that Nigeria’s economic challenges should be addressed primarily through sound fiscal and monetary policies.
Nigeria has continued to face significant economic pressures over the past two years, including inflation, fluctuations in the exchange rate, rising food prices, and the impact of major economic reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the liberalization of the foreign exchange market.
Pastor Adeboye, one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian leaders, has consistently encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and prayerful during periods of economic hardship. His latest comments add to the ongoing national conversation about the country’s economic direction and the role of faith in navigating difficult times.
The remarks continue to attract widespread attention online as Nigerians debate the relationship between governance, economic reforms, and the impact of prayer on national development.
