The wife of Gatundu South constituency CDF Chairperson Peter Kanyita, Mercy, has set the record straight about what happened to her son, while also defending allegations against her.
There were rumours online suggesting that when her son drowned in the pool, she allegedly chose to hide the incident to protect Kameme FM Muthoni Wakirumba, alias Baby Top.
Her son, Master Theo, had also been claimed to be with Baby Top when he drowned, and it was also alleged that Kanyita was seeking CCTV footage but could not get it.
What did Peter Kanyita’s wife say at son’s burial?
However, at her son’s burial, Mercy broke down as she defended herself against those allegations that soiled her reputation.
“I am a good mother. I take good care of my children and do everything that needs to be done myself. I am not on social media, where people have been posting and sharing things, but the comments are still reaching me. I have never posted my life on social media. I am not on Facebook, and I do not share my personal life online,” she said.

She also narrated events that happened on the day that her son drowned in a pool and defended Baby Top against claims.
“On that day, Muthoni was the first person to see my son and, unfortunately, the last person to see him breathing. It was not our first time meeting Muthoni. We had gone there to see her father; we were not at a party, as some people are claiming. Sundays are usually family days for us. Yes, we have help at home, but we chose to spend time outdoors with our children. To those who are gossiping, I do not even know what you are talking about. At the very least, for the sake of my husband, please allow us to mourn in peace,” she added.
Mercy also asked people to stop talking about her family and give them space as they navigate the loss of their child.
“I have seen conversations blaming Wakirumba, but I want to clarify that I was the one who saw my son in the swimming pool, and his father was the one who brought him out. This is an incredibly painful moment for our family” she further said.
