Gunmen have kidnapped the wife and twin children of the younger brother of Bayo Adelabu, former minister of power and 2027 Oyo state APC governorship aspirant in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning at the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area.
An eyewitness told newsmen that the victims were abducted around Elewura, Challenge, while leaving their residence.
Confirming the development, a media aide to Adelabu, Femi Awogboro, said the victims were seized while heading out of the Elewura area towards the expressway.
“Adelabu’s younger brother’s wife (Laide) together with her twin (Peter and Paul) were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” he said.
He added that the victims were intercepted while attempting to connect to the express road before they were whisked away by the attackers.
The incident has added to growing concerns over rising cases of abductions in Oyo state, coming days after a major school kidnapping in the state and other recent abductions recorded across the region.
Recall that over 40 teachers and students were abducted on May 15, 2026, during an attack in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
In another case,Wale Oriade, an APC chieftain was previously abducted in Ibadan in December 2025, highlighting recurring security challenges in the state.
At the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command could not immediately confirm the incident but noted that verification was ongoing.
“I can not independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” he said.
