Oyo State, Nigeria – In yet another deeply disturbing incident, a video showing schoolchildren fleeing in absolute panic while desperately shouting “Where are the bandits?” has gone viral, sparking fresh outrage across the country.…....
The footage captures terrified students in school uniforms running helter-skelter after rumours of an imminent bandit attack spread through their community. Instead of order and reassurance, chaos erupted as the children scattered in fear, screaming for safety. One voice in the video heartbreakingly asks, “Where are the bandits?” – a painful cry that reflects the growing frustration and helplessness felt by many Nigerians.
This latest scare comes shortly after armed bandits attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where several students and teachers were abducted and at least one teacher was brutally beheaded in a video that shocked the nation.
Parents and residents are now openly questioning the safety of schools in the region. “Maybe students should no longer go to school because of what is happening,” many have lamented, highlighting how banditry has turned education into a life-threatening ordeal in parts of Nigeria.
The recurring attacks have left communities traumatised, with schools in affected areas considering temporary closure as fear continues to grip students, teachers, and parents alike. Social media users have aggressively reposted the video, calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive action to end the insecurity plaguing schools.
“How many more of these videos must we see before real action is taken?” one angry Nigerian asked online.
